Obstacles

I have not posted anything for a long time. I have finished my freshman year of college. Boy o Boy was it the the toughest year for me. I learned a lot of lessons for example, living with a roommate and handling all my finances. I have never mentioned that I went through foster care at age sixteen until I emancipated. Recently I gave a speech for the Faith in Motion event in my community. It is explained further on page 3 of the link. I received a lot of compliments after I gave the speech. I am so happy that others understood how much I meant each word about the importance of social services. Right now I am going through a big obstacle to pass my current classes. I am glad that I was able to use what I learned in my speech class because the experience boosted my energy to keep going since I never gave up on myself before (pre- and during foster care). It is important to be patient with yourself and also of others. We must understand each other's differences if we are to have peace. My experience in foster care is a long one. I like short and to the point posts so I am going to take time to write a long essay form of my experience in foster care then I will post it to scribd (hopefully it will still be free service) so that my followers could read it (I hope I have a following ). I will post it as soon as it is done. In the mean time I will post more experiences of growth,hardship and of course.... learning.

Licensing Your Work

Although I state that my documents on scribd are my teacher's it is not enough to give me clearance. I was searching online on how to license documents. I went to the creative commons website and found that there is only html for websites for their licences. then I kept searching and found out that Microsoft created this tool where you can license your documents on Word. It is free to download. So, the next step for me is to ask my teacher's full permission by emailing them. Hopefully they will not say no since there are hundreds of readers liking their documents. Using Refworks

This week I will be exploring Refworks. It stores bibliographies to use in scholarly papers. My critical thinking class essay is based on the debate we had this week. My debate team's topic was on whether we should allow cameras in the courtroom Wish me luck on my essay. Here is a image of my first time using Refworks. What do you do when you have a homework block?

Recently I have been having a homework block. First I had a routing going on. But, then all these changes disrupted my regular routine of tuesday and thursday two hour sit on the computer just doing math homework online. I also started feeling stiff from being in the same position for long. Usually I am not someone who considers tutoring but, I started to this week. Today I did my best to do my homework but I still took long. I do not want to fail my Business Calculus course. Now I am going to do my best since spring is almost over. Rating Myself With California Standards K-12

I downloaded the California Standards used for kindergarten through twelfth grade and downloaded it on my scribd page. My page can be found using my username which is vhigherlearning. Currently I am a freshman in college and noticed that I am not solid in many areas. For example, in my critical thinking class I do not score an A for punctuation. This blog has many mistakes as it is. Using these standards I will go through the internet to find worksheets to improve my writing using the California Standards. I have forgotten what a predicate and an appositive is. All I need is to practice so I will not make any more mistakes. The California Standards can be found online with pdf and word versions. There is science,social studies,visual and performing arts,health and physical education standards as well. You call also find all of them in my scribd page. Now that I am in college I need to take ownership of what I need to improve on. It is convenient to find what I need online nowadays. It would be ackward to ask a teacher or the school district office for these standards in a book when it could be read online. Any comments on today's education is welcomed. Thanks for reading.

First Business Calculus Exam

Today as I got my test for Business Calculus I was confused because the my format of my answers was why I got points deducted from my test. I use the same format as the teacher does when it is written on notes. It is better to be safe than sorry. Sometimes the teacher wants no format applied but I think I am better off being mathematically correct. My test can be viewed at Business Calculus Exam. The format on the course online is also different. My answers could be viewed in my Business Calculus First Exam. I mean 68 for a test where mostly all questions were answered right is not fair if I answered the problems correctly. In a later post it will be posting screens of the answers online to compare the answers by the teacher and the course online where we do our homework an quizzes. It is not fair to find out what format is needed on a test and get points deducted.

Cornell Notes Saved My Life

 Being in my second semester in college I have learned skills that I learned in my high school helped me out.  In my high school we were required to use cornell notes. I did not see a need of them to be honest because I did not learn by that style. But as soon as I entered college my whole view of it became different.

  I have a history class that begins at 7:00 . During this time I am really sleepy sometimes. I was not happy one day when I had my notes looking like they were not notes at all. Then I remembered  the note taking style in my highschool. Now it has helped me out to because my notes will be more comprehensible to me. Instead of writing tid bits that the instructor says I could focus on the point of the lectures since one column is designated for the main idea and the other for bullet points,examples etc. In the end of the notes you have a summary of what the notes is all about. It has been four weeks of me just taking notes without any organization and my first test will not be easy to study through. 

But, now that I am using this style of notes even though I get sleep my writing sticks to the main ideas. My second tests for my courses will be studied better.

Beginning

Hello.

To formally intorduce myself my online name is veronicahigherlearning. I am currently a freshman student wanting to major in Business and Education. I hope to create software that will help with anything from math to Swahili. I love to learn just about everything. I am also thinking about minoring in Computer Science to be able to understand the software side of my future business. Well it is going to be a long journey but it takes small steps. So...

My first post will be about my grammar journey. My sentences are mostly simple sentences. Hopefully by the end of many posts I will be able to write the level I am supposed to be writing. . I am going to begin with using the first site I googled for grammar and that is the Guide to Grammar and Writing site.
